Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lagree?

What is Lagree?

Lagree fitness is a full-body total conditioning workout created by Sebastien Lagree. Also called “the next evolution in physical fitness,” Lagree is sure to get your heart pumping and your sweat flowing. Perfect for everyone, from beginner to elite athlete. Learn more about Lagree fitness here.

Is it Pilates?

Contrary to popular belief, Lagree Fitness is not Pilates. Sebastien Lagree created the Megaformer to be an improvement on the standard Pilates reformer; consequently, some of the first studios were known as “Pilates Plus.”

Lagree fitness has been affectionately referred to as “Pilates on steroids.”

According to an article in Women’s Health:

Founder Sebastien Lagree developed the workouts in Los Angeles after he noticed how many of his clients were hitting the treadmill directly after their Pilates sessions. “I told them, ‘If you want cardio, I can give you a Pilates workout that gets your heart rate up,’” he says. Eventually, he even approached engineers about designing an amped up version of a reformer that comes with added bells and whistles to give you an even better workout. “There are platforms at both the front and back of the machine, and it has lots of attachments so you can do more with it and hit more muscles,” says Tracy Carlinsky, owner of Brooklyn BodyBurn located in Brooklyn, NY.

What's the equipment?

Check out our Lagree page for information about the illustrious machine known as the Megaformer. It’s a beaut!

What are the moves?

There are literally hundreds of moves in Lagree Fitness. Before you let that psych you out, just know that once you master three essential moves, all other moves will be easy peasy.

I'm under 18. Can I take a class at The Haute Room?

The Haute Room welcomes Lagree participants under 18! All you need to do is bring your parent or legal guardian to your first visit to sign our waiver and liability form.

I have two left feet. Can I still do Lagree?

Great news for all the coordinationally (it’s not a word) challenged: Lagree is not a dance class, a step class, an aerobics class, or a choreographed body sculpting class. It’s basically you and your Megaformer, making sweet, sweaty music together.

Sure, it helps if you can hold a beat, but even that’s not a dealbreaker. You’ll get an amazing workout regardless, and your coordination will see massive improvements.

I'm new to exercise. Can I still do Lagree?

First off, congratulations! We’re proud of you for making the first step toward achieving your fitness goals.

The great thing about Lagree is that everyone can benefit from it – even someone who has never worked out before.

We won’t lie – it is a challenging workout. You’ll probably have to take many breaks breaks in the beginning, and in the middle, and probably at the end, and that’s okay. Our instructors WILL push you do to better – and that’s because they know you can. The important thing is to work at your own pace, and you will see results in no time!

I'm pregnant. Can I do Lagree?

For clients who are pregnant and new to Lagree Fitness, we do not advise starting our classes.

However, clients who have been regularly attending Lagree classes at The Haute Room may continue working out with us with prior consent from your doctor. As always, consult your physician before starting any new exercise plan.

Please contact us if you have any questions!

I'm really fit. Will Lagree be too easy for me?

We love seeing what incredibly fit people can accomplish with Lagree. We’re confident that even the most elite athlete can get a killer workout on the Megaformer. This is a workout like none other.

Give it a try and you’ll see!

Can The Haute Room help me with my rehabilitation needs?

Lagree Fitness is not intended to be rehabilitative. Though there are certain rehabilitative-like benefits to Lagree, such as increased flexibility and improved posture, the workout is intended for healthy individuals, cleared for exercise by their doctor.

Should you have any specific needs or injuries please contact us before your first class. Each of our instructors are knowledgeable and capable of providing modifications to meet your needs.

The Classes

I'm new to Lagree. Do I have to take an intro course?

First off, welcome! We’re always happy to have new Lagree enthusiasts in our midst.

There’s really no intro required – just jump right in with your first Lagree class! Arrive a few minutes early to get familiar with the Megaformer and get set up.

Your coach will be able to answer all your questions and help you with modifications or whatever you need until you feel comfortable on the Megaformer yourself.

Our classes are never more than 8 people, so your coach will be able to spend one-on-one time with you as needed.

How often should I do Lagree?

Lagree is designed to work your muscles to the point of fatigue. After that, your body needs rest.

Depending upon your current fitness level and the intensity of your workouts, you may need more or less time to recover.

We recommend taking Lagree classes 3-4 times a week to achieve optimal results.

Remember, your muscles and body can’t change without rest and time to rebuild. We recommend giving yourself two days a week to recover.

Waitlist Confirmation. Am I in the class or not?

If you have received an email confirmation that you have been added from the wait list to class then you are confirmed in the class. If you log in to your account after receiving your confirmation email and it shows that you are ‘unconfirmed’, you are still confirmed in the class.

Think of signing up on a wait list as the same as signing up for a class. If you can not make it to the class, please remember to remove yourself from the wait list or the class at least 12 hours prior to class to avoid any cancellation charges.

Should I eat before or after class?

We recommend eating a small snack 30-45 minutes before working out, such as an apple, a banana, or a handful of almonds. Eating before your workout will help keep your energy level high and also helps burn more fat rather than muscle.

After your workout: We suggest that you eat some protein within 45 minutes. Eating protein post-workout helps aid muscle recovery. Enjoy a protein smoothie or low fat greek yogurt and berries.

What should I wear and what should I bring to class?

Here are our recommendations:

  • Grip Socks Required…clothing optional. Just kidding…but seriously, your safety comes first and grip socks are mandatory.  Available in studio for purchase.
  • Wear clothes you are comfortable working out in.
  • Jewelry is not recommended.
  • Please, no cell phones in class. Give yourself 50 minutes of “unplugged” time to focus on yourself – you deserve it!
  • No strong perfume or cologne, please.
  • We provide complimentary filtered water and snacks for purchase.

When will I start to see results?

If you attend classes at The Haute Room three times a week, you’ll start seeing some changes after about two weeks.

By the end of 30 days, you’ll see even more results. From there, watch your transformation unfold and bask in all its glory!
